FYJC arts, commerce cut-offs jump by up to 5%, confirm seats by July 9


This year as the number of students who have got more than 90% are higher and as these applicants are applying at top junior colleges, this has made the cut-offs go sky high across streams. The cutoffs for arts and commerce saw a hike of up to 5% whereas cutoffs for science stream only increased marginally.

fyjc cut off list mumbai 2018 - One of the favorite among Arts students, St Xavier’s College, Fort first cut off list for open category stood at 94.2%, as compared to 94% last year. VG Vaze College cut-offs increased to 86.8% from 83.8% in 2017. Students who scored over 90% this year increased by 20% as to last year. 1.2 lakh students were allotted seats in one of 10 colleges they had chosen in the first fyjc merit list 2018. This year, 35,787 students got admission in their chosen first preference college. Now these students must secure the admission in this college.

Vidyadhar Joshi, vice-principal, VG Vaze College said, “It has been seen in the years that Students with even high scores are looking admission in Arts stream. So the high rise in cut offs are not only because of many students scoring above 90% but also because of arts stream popularity.”

If you seen the high cutoffs in Arts, the same can be said about Commerce. The cut-offs for Commerce also saw a high jump. The first FYJC admission list stood at 94.2%, as compared to 91.8% in 2017 at NM College. “Our top ranker scored 98.8% and five other top rankers scored above 98%”, said NM College Principal Parag Ajagaonkar. Nothing much can be said about the fyjc second merit list 2018 to be released on 13th July. Ajagaonkar also said, “It is difficult to tell the fyjc second merit list cut-offs as students can change preferences. In

2017, Cut-offs for the fyjc second merit list increased after students changed preferences. The FYJC second list cut-offs could be the same or could see a decline”.Many colleges saw their top-scorers on the merit list to be above 95% for commerce and science, and above 90% for arts. “Some students scoring 97% have applied for science stream, students with 95% have applied for commerce streamand with 93.6% applied for Arts stream. Applicants for arts stream were too high as compared to last year”, said KC College principal Hemalata Bagla. She also said, “Coming soon is the fyjc second merit list. But students are advised to take good care while filling up preferences as once you take admission to a college, it cannot be cancelled.” Many students complained about the colleges they have been allotted. One of the student said, “I opted for science but now I want commerce. I have been allotted my first preference and thus can’t change the college.”

Students can confirm fyjc first merit list admissions till July 9. An education department official said, “Junior colleges will soon upload details of admissions they held under different quotas. These seats and students will be out of race for the second round”.
